Stressed? Recognize These Common Stressors Before They Arise
D. Azogue
Stress is something people want to avoid and yet, they
sometimes fail to fight it. To people who want to beat it, the
first thing to do is to recognize where it's coming from.
Though the way we react to our environment is certainly what
causes stress, it helps to recognize the common external
situations that make us stressed out. This way when one of them
arises, we'll be able to respond to it positively and hopefully,
eliminate that wasteful stress from our lives.
1. Caffeine and other stimulants. Caffeine makes us more alert,
jumpy and more anxious, which gets in the way when we want to
relax and wind down. It is found in coffee, tea, and
over-the-counter drugs. Eliminate your consumtion of caffeine.
If you want to be relaxed, choose non-toxic and non-caffeinated
herbal teas like hops and chamomile.
2. News. Depressing news about the economy or other people may
depress or worry people. If you're the type who easily gets
upset over bad news, then read less of it or choose
lighthearted ones instead.
3. Negative People. There are people who easily get annoyed
over the smallest things, or those who put you down and make
you feel bad about yourself. Negative people have the tendency
to influence about the way you think and how you feel over your
problems. So choose the company you want to belong to and make
sure it's more positive.
4. Criticisms. It's natural for people to want to be praised
and given compliments to, but it doesn't happen all the time.
Criticisms can be destructive or constructive. Being criticized
cannot be avoided. Just ask yourself, "Are they qualifed enough
to give me remarks like that?" People with spiteful or envious
minds want to criticize others who seem better than them, while
concerned and sincere friends give their honest opinions to make
you better. It will be even more stressful if you'll take to
heart and rationalize every single criticism everyone makes,
so, just believe in yourself. More over, listen to that inner
voice inside yourself.
5. Noises. The loud horns from cars and buses and loud music
sometimes make us feel agitated. When you are in a noisy
environment it is hard to think. Therefore be in a quiet
environment as much as possible. Listen to soft music or walk
outside. Have a quiet time with yourself.
While there are many more common stressors in the world, here
are just some of them. I'm sure that with constant practice and
by being in tuned to oneself, then there will be less stress and
more peace within oneself. Good luck!
