The Raw Food Detox Diet: Eat Pure and Fresh
Jason Uvios
Can you tell me what is common between celebrity designer Donna Karan
and the world famous chef Charlie Trotter? Well, the factor that binds
them together is their strict adherence to the raw food diet.
Wondering what on earth does raw food diet mean? Let's explain it in
simple language.
All the foods contain a number of vitamins and other nutrients. The
foods are also rich in enzymes that assist in the digestion process and
provide nourishment to the body. But as we cook them on the heat of 116
degrees F and above, all these helpful substances of foods get
destroyed.
So the proponents of the raw foods diet are in favor of the consumption
of the foods in their unprocessed and uncooked forms. They hold that
foods in their original form provide the utmost nutritional value and
retain the "life force".
The raw food diets typically include plant based foods like fresh
fruit, green and leafy vegetables, seeds, nuts and sprouts, whole
grains, beans, and seaweed. The fruits and vegetables in raw foods diet
are preferably organically produced.
There is a close link between raw food diet and detoxification of the
body. According to the health researches, a range of harmful chemicals
enter our body and not all of them are eliminated by the natural
detoxification system of our body. As a result, these poisonous
elements keep on accumulated inside the body. The raw food diet has the
unique capability of flushing out these toxins from our body.
Once your body gets detoxified, you get
- Enhanced energy
- A glowing skin appearance
- Improved digestion
- A slimmer figure
- Reduced risk of heart disease
The raw food diet is almost free of saturated fat and Trans fats. It
contains little or no sodium. It is rich in potassium, magnesium,
folate and fiber. As plants are the major component of the raw food
diet, they are extremely rich in highly nutritious plant chemicals
called phytochemicals.
As such the adherence to raw food diet leads to lower level of
cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations. Thus, not only a heart
disease, the raw food diet also reduces the risks of developing cancer
and diabetes.
However, switching off to such a diet too quickly can backfire and you
may start experiencing a range of negative outcomes.
The healthier option is to make a step by step transition from your
previous food habits. The transition should also be based on your
current biological and nutritional needs.
Remember, it is completely up to you how far you want to go with detox
diet. The most radical dieters would not touch anything but raw foods.
But there are still the moderates, who adhere to raw foods but still do
not completely give up the cooked foods. However, a raw food diet is
the safest and easiest means for achieving a detoxified body that is
clean from both inside and outside.
